Hydraulic fuel tank can be divided into open fuel tank and closed fuel tank two kinds. The open tank is simple in structure, easy to install and maintain, and is widely used in many hydraulic systems.
Many hydraulic components and accessories are often installed in the hydraulic tank, such as motors, coolers, heaters, air filters and level gauges. Although the oil tank is an accessory of the hydraulic system, it plays a very important role in the entire hydraulic system.

The following points should be considered when designing the fuel tank:
1, the tank must have a large enough volume. On the one hand, as far as possible to meet the requirements of heat dissipation, on the other hand, when the hydraulic system stops working, it should be able to accommodate all working media in the system; While working, it can maintain the appropriate liquid level.
2, suction pipe and return pipe should be inserted below the lowest liquid level to prevent suction and return oil splash bubbles. The distance between the pipe mouth and the bottom and the wall of the box is generally not less than 3 times the diameter of the pipe. The suction pipe can be installed with about 100μm of mesh or line gap filter, and the installation position should be easy to load and unload and clean the filter. The return pipe mouth should be cut at a 45° Angle and face the box wall to prevent the return oil from impacting the sediment at the bottom of the tank and is also conducive to heat dissipation. 3, the distance between the suction pipe and the return pipe should be as far as possible, and a partition should be set between them to increase the path of liquid flow circulation, which can improve the effect of heat dissipation, separating air and settling impurities. The height of the separator is 2/3 to 3/4 of the height of the liquid level.
4, in order to keep the oil clean, the oil tank should be sealed around the cover plate, the cover plate is equipped with an air filter, oil injection and ventilation are generally completed by an air filter. In order to facilitate oil discharge and cleaning, the bottom of the box should have a certain slope, and the oil discharge valve is set at the lowest place. For the fuel tank that is not easy to open the cover, a cleaning hole should be set to facilitate the cleaning of the inside of the fuel tank.
5. The bottom of the tank should be more than 150mm from the ground to facilitate handling, oil discharge and heat dissipation. Lifting lugs should be set at the appropriate position of the tank for lifting, and a liquid level gauge should be set to monitor the liquid level.
6, the anti-corrosion treatment of the inner surface of the hydraulic tank should be fully paid attention to. The commonly used method is: ① phosphating after pickling. Suitable for all media, but limited by pickling phosphating tank, tank can not be too large. ② Apply anti-rust oil directly after shot peening. Suitable for general mineral oil and synthetic hydraulic oil, not suitable for aqueous hydraulic fluid. Because it is not limited by processing conditions, this method is often used in large fuel tanks. ③ Thermal spraying alumina after sandblasting. Suitable for all media except water - glycol. ④ Spray after sandblasting. Suitable for all media. However, limited by drying equipment, the fuel tank can not be too large.
