How to choose a suitable radar level meter?

2024 09/10

The selection of a suitable radar level meter can be considered from the following aspects:
PART.1 Measurement requirement analysis
1. Measure media characteristics
- For different media, such as liquid, solid particles, slurry, etc., its dielectric constant, viscosity, temperature and other characteristics are different. The medium with high dielectric constant can be measured well by ordinary radar level meter. For medium with low dielectric constant, guided wave radar level meter may be more suitable because its wave propagates along the guide rod and the signal is relatively stable. - If the medium is corrosive, it is necessary to choose a radar level meter with a corrosion resistant material, such as using a corrosion resistant antenna material and housing. 2. Measurement range requirements
- Determine the level range to be measured. Different types of radar level meters have different measuring ranges, and the products that can meet the requirements of the measuring ranges should be selected according to the actual needs. If the measuring range is large, you can consider a non-contact radar level meter, which usually has a wide measuring range. 3. Working conditions
- Consider the working conditions in the tank, such as whether there is stirring in the tank and whether the medium fluctuation is large. When the tank is stirred and the medium fluctuates greatly, the measured value of the guided wave radar level meter fixed at the bottom is more stable than that of traditional radar. - For the level measurement in a small tank, if the installation space is small or there are more interference in the tank, the ordinary radar may not be applicable, and the advantages of guided wave radar are more obvious. - If the operating condition is in the explosion danger area, the radar level meter suitable for the area should be selected. The non-contact radar level meter is usually not restricted by the explosion danger area.
PART.2 Product performance evaluation
1. Accuracy requirements
- Select the radar level meter according to the accuracy requirements of the measurement mission. In general, high-precision measurement needs may require the selection of products with superior performance and relatively high prices. At the same time, pay attention to the accuracy and stability of the product under different working conditions. 2. Response speed
- If the response speed of level change is required, the radar level meter with fast response speed should be selected. Non-contact radar level meter usually has a fast response speed. 3. Reliability and stability
- Examine the reliability and stability of the product, including the service life of the product, failure rate, etc. You can evaluate the reliability and stability of the product by looking at the quality certification of the product, user evaluation and after-sales service of the manufacturer.
PART.3 Installation for maintenance consideration
1. Installation method
- Different types of radar level meters have different mounting methods, such as non-contact radar level meters can be mounted on the top of the tank through the flange, guided wave radar level meters need to be mounted on the wall or inserted into the tank. Select an appropriate installation mode based on actual installation conditions to ensure convenient and secure installation. 2. Maintenance cost
- Consider the maintenance cost of the product, including the difficulty of routine maintenance, the replacement cost of parts, etc. Choosing products with lower maintenance costs can reduce long-term usage costs. Step 3: Compatibility
- Ensure that the radar level meter has good compatibility with existing control systems or other equipment in order to achieve data transmission and integration. To sum up, the selection of a suitable radar level meter requires comprehensive consideration of measurement requirements, product performance, installation and maintenance factors to ensure that the selection of products that meet the requirements of practical applications.
